Where the sorter sits in a rice mill
Paddy cleaning → de-stoning → husking → paddy separator → whitening → polishing → length grading → colour sorting → packing. Many mills add a second colour sorter on the rejects to recover good rice.
Questions people ask
What is the price of a rice colour sorter in India?
Listed prices (October 2026): ₹6 to ₹9 lakh for 1 chute, 1 to 2 t/hr; ₹10.5 to ₹16 lakh for 2 to 4 t/hr; ₹21 to ₹36 lakh for 10-chute, high-capacity and steam-rice machines. Most exclude GST and freight.
How many chutes does my rice mill need?
Roughly, each chute sorts 0.5 to 1.5 tonnes of rice an hour, depending on how dirty the rice is and how clean you want it. Match the sorter to your mill's output with some spare, and ask the seller to test your own rice.
Can one sorter do raw and parboiled rice?
Most can, with different settings. Parboiled and steam rice is darker and needs better cameras; some makers sell a separate steam-rice model.
Do I need a two-stage sorter?
Export and premium mills often sort twice: a first pass removes most rejects, then the rejects are sorted again to recover good grains, or the accepted rice is sorted again for a cleaner product.
Which brands are used in Indian rice mills?
Indian-made sorters (named here as their makers join the platform) and imported brands such as Bühler (SORTEX), Satake, AMD, Meyer, Anysort and Taiho, sold through Indian dealers.
