Seed sorter: optical sorting for seed lots
A seed sorter removes discoloured, damaged, diseased and off-type seeds and weed seeds from a seed lot, so germination and purity go up. Bühler's SORTEX J (1 to 7 modules), AMD's RC and NY series (1 to 12 t/hr), Meyer and Taiho build optical seed sorters.

Questions people ask
Can an optical sorter raise germination?
It removes seeds that look damaged or diseased, which often lifts germination of the lot. It does not test germination itself; keep testing the lot.
Which seeds can be sorted?
Cereal, pulse, oilseed and vegetable seeds of most sizes; very small seeds need sorters with fine-resolution cameras.
